Barring any last minute interventions, the much anticipated April 18 boxing bout between Ayittey Powers and Bukom Banku will not come off.
Powers says God has communicated to him through his spiritual father, Nigerian Prophet TB Joshua, General overseer of The Synagogue, Church of All Nations (SCOAN), not to fight on that day.
In an exclusive interview with Asempa Sports on Thursday, March 27, 2014 the Cruiserweight boxer maintained he was only following spiritual advise.
“As for me Ayitey powers, I want to fight, but God says I should hold on, if I fight I will win.”
Although the boxer has not officially communicated his decision to have the bout postponed to the promoters, Powers insists he will stand by his words no matter what.
“As for the fight it will come on but God says I should hold and I will abide by the prophesy of God. Whatever God says about the bout I will let people know in the near future but for now the fight is on hold,” he declared.
The bout has been the talk of the town and anticipation is reaching fever pitch as Ghanaians get swept into the euphoria of finally watching the oft-postponed fight.
The two men have been engaged in a slanging match, with Bukom Banku predicting a knockout in the 5th round, while Powers says he will ‘finish’ Banku in the 6th round.
Boxing fans expressed disappointment and outrage at the latest development, saying Powers had taken them for a ride.
Others suggested that Ayittey Powers had pulled out of the fight to avoid the beating of his life.
