News of Beyonce featuring Shatta Wale and a couple of artistes from Africa on her new album (The lion king) hit social media yesterday (July 16, 2019), and is still trending on all major news platforms.
This led to a number of stakeholders in the Ghanaian media circles congratulating Shatta Wale on achieving such a feat. Sarkodie out of goodwill also reached out with a congratulatory tweet:
Only to be bashed and trolled by many on social media. This was done under the guise of #Kabutey, a name which has appeared in most, if not all of Sarkodie’s songs.
Though some may find this amusing or a source of entertainment, it brings to the fore the kind of people we are becoming as “Ghanaians”. We seem to make and unmake heroes quite quickly. Shatta may have landed a feature with Beyonce, but let us not forget what Sarkodie has done for this country and the african continent as a whole. The awards, features, shows, collaborations and exposure. And doing all these with a native language (Twi). It is often said that a country which does not honor its heroes is not worth dying for, Sark is respected and held in high esteem by most Africans, let us not wash that respect down the drain. Davido wasn’t trolled by Nigerians because Wizkid was featured and he wasn’t. Let’s learn to protect our own as Ghanaians.
