Award-winning Ghanaian actress, Yvonne Nelson, has officially announced the date for her upcoming event dubbed ‘DumsorMustStop Vigil’.
The vigil which seeks to draw the attention of President John Mahama to solve the current energy crisis the country is facing will be held on May 16, 2015.
The sultry actress announced the event on her official Facebook page by posting a letter addressed to the Regional Commander of the Ghana Police Service in the Greater Accra Region.
The letter was jointly signed by her lawyers, Nana Kwasi Awuah and Kofi Bentil, who also act as lawyers for award-winning musician, Michael Owusu Addo (popularly known as Sarkodie).
The letter said, “As you may have heard by now, Yvonne Nelson started an online campaign dubbed #dumsormuststop, which received enormous support by Sarkodie, other celebrities, and Ghanaians in general. As citizens of this great country, Yvonne and Sarkodie consider it their civic duty to God and country to walk the talk by embarking on a peaceful vigil in order to drive home the message.”
“The converging point of the event shall be the stadium grounds of the University of Ghana, Legon. About 500 Ghanaians are expected to be in attendance,” the lawyers stated.
“It’s official. We are holding the #dumsormuststop vigil. As you can see in the letter, my lawyers have written to the Police and informed them of the vigil. Details are in the letter. I will be leading this myself with my friends.
You are all invited to join us. Come with your torch lights, candles, bobo, etc. We have to make our voices heard.”
“The #dumsormuststop vigil is on Saturday 16th May! Join me and other citizens of GHANA Strictly non-partisan. This is simply a discharge of your civic responsibility to God and country. This is for the many people who have lost their jobs because of dumsor. This is for the many people who have lost their lives because of dumsor. This is for the school children who have to study with lanterns and torches to write exams. This is for the sick people at the hospitals who have to endure dumsor on their sick beds. This is for the many patients who are unable to receive efficient healthcare because of dumsor. This is for you and I and the unborn generation of this great nation.
#DumsorMustStop,” Yvonne shared this on her Facebook page.
